Women in Ministry and all the rest of us, sometimes need a reminder of just how big God is. We need to remember how big He is so that we don’t make Him small? Women in Ministry Serve A Big God.
Women in Ministry Serve a Big God
We sometimes make God smaller than He really is. Have you ever had a situation you prayed and prayed about? Earnestly seeking God’s will because you want to follow Him. You had two choices – A and B. After much prayer and no definite answer, you chose B. You even did that with prayer telling God what you were going to do and asking Him to keep you in His will. I have prayed quite a few stop-me-if-I’m-wrong prayers!
A few months later, negative things had happened and choice B was looking pretty bad. You aren’t mad at God, just a little confused. B is stressful and there are people involved who are hurting you. You are wondering why this happened. Did you make a bad choice? Maybe you didn’t pray enough or you were impatient. You are not blaming God but you feel like you did something wrong.
God Can Turn Around Every Circumstance for Our Good
When we do that, we make Him small even though that’s not our intent. How? God is big enough to have directed you to A. He didn’t. So, maybe that means He is so big that He has a purpose in your life and you need to experience B in order to be ready for C or D or X! He is that big. Or, even if you made a mistake, He is so big He can turn it around for your good. We need to remind ourselves every day of just how BIG God is!
5 Steps to Remember How Big God Is
#1 – Remember that God is bigger than any circumstance. He loves you so much that He will use everything for your good if you let Him. How you got there is not an issue to Him. He will teach through it all.
This requires looking past the moment, the feelings and the circumstances to see the situation as God sees it. How? Just ask Him to show you. Perhaps there is someone who is watching you, waiting to see how you respond to bad treatment or gossip in a Godly way. Maybe, in the future, there is someone who will need your help in learning how to show God’s mercy and grace to those who are treating them harshly. That’s how big God is, bigger than every circumstance.
#2 – Remember that God is the God of the invisible and Faith is invisible. The invisible is the substance of what we hope for and the evidence of what we can’t see! That’s almost funny, isn’t it? We can’t see it, yet faith is what reminds us that God is bigger than anything here on earth. A thing with no earthly substance is the substance of every heavenly thing!
He is the God of the Invisible
Our emotions can block our faith. If we focus on our mistakes our faith will falter. Our faith is to be IN God. However, emotions, circumstances, mistakes, and doubt can cause us to channel our hearts and minds in the wrong direction. I can physically feel all of those things and see some of them so it’s easy to allow the seen to block out the unseen. My eyes of faith are blinded by the eyes of the flesh. However, we all know that the fact that we can’t see something does not mean it isn’t there. I can’t see air. However, I would die without it. I don’t see it being produced anywhere but it is very real! Faith is real and growing in us as we exercise it in our daily lives.
God is not so small that He can be restrained by what I see, feel, or hear! The only person struggling is me and even that cannot stop God from completing His good work in me! I am stopping myself from seeing what He is doing. I need to open my heart and mind to Him and take those feelings captive.
#3 – Remember who you are supposed to keep your eyes focused on. There is only One. The Author and Finisher of our faith. The One who created us is also the One who alone is perfect and who is The One who is the I AM in each life.
The enemy wants to turn our eyes away from Jesus and onto anything else. Because anything else can and will cause us to falter if we let it.
#4 – Remember whose will is being done here on earth and in heaven. Sometimes, we get a picture in our mind of how things are supposed to be. Perhaps the picture is of how you are supposed to look – but you don’t. Or how your friend is supposed to act and talk – and she isn’t measuring up. Maybe you have a picture of what your children’s future will be – but their picture is different. It’s not that your pictures are bad. They are probably good. However, the good can be the thief of the best. If your good picture becomes something you are inflexible about because you won’t consider whether or not it was given to you by God, you might be in for a surprise. Our preconceived ideas can get us in trouble.
Preconceived Ideas and Expectations
Along with the picture we build something more, an expectation of how it will look and feel and be done. Then it doesn’t happen that way. We had this great vision but it doesn’t seem to be coming together as we expected.
Our picture may be lovely but it may not be the same as God’s picture. Or, it is God’s picture but He wasn’t going to finish drawing it for several more years! Don’t get all frustrated and sad, or mad at God or people, or give up. We should be thrilled to know that God is HUGE! It is His will which absolutely will prevail. That should be a comfort to us. Our problem is our expectations and our inability to let go of our way. God is in the business of messing up our pictures so that He can draw an even better one. That can be frustrating or it can be exciting.
We Can Trust Because We Have Submitted Our Lives to God
I can’t tell you how many times my picture of how my life would be has been eradicated by God! Not the enemy. Why not the enemy? Because, I have submitted my life to God and He is so big that the enemy can’t mess with Him at all and definitely cannot stop Him. The enemy can mess with me if I let him. To me, it may seem like a disaster but God has painted an entirely new and better picture for my life. I have to trust Him.
With that, Jesus returned to His secluded spot to pray again. Jesus: Father, if there is no other way for this cup to pass without My drinking it—then not My will, but Yours be done. Click To Tweet.
#5 – Remember what lies ahead. Sounds like a contradiction. How do I remember what I haven’t seen yet? God sent us some postcards. He told us enough about heaven that we want to go there. He has also let us experience little bits of it here on earth. Sort of like being able to have one tiny taste of the best dark chocolate on earth, knowing there is more that’s even better waiting for me!
We are in the world but not of it. The kingdom of God is in our midst. We are seated (right now) in heavenly places with Christ.
Even if our ‘right now’ may look rather dismal, we must always remember that this is NOT all there is. Up ahead are greater glories than we could ever imagine. All around us God and His Holy Spirit are at work – that invisible work of faith. Right now is preparing us for that day.
God is so extremely happy with us at every moment because He sees the beginning from the end! He knows us and He wants us to join Him in that view of this life. This life is a breath – a glorious flower that lasts for a moment. He is never ashamed of us and never belittles us or regrets having us as His own. He is over-the-moon about each and every one of us. We make Him happy all the time – even when we think we are total failures. He sees us through the blood of Christ, and there is simply nothing better!
Women in Ministry Supporting Each Other
That is how great our God is. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient. He has all the power, is everywhere all the time, and He knows everything.
Women in Ministry, encounter all the obstacles there are to ministry – slander, gossip, mockery, betrayal, disappointment, fear, and on and on. We also experience great joy and rewards in what we do. However, the passage of time combined with disappointment and hurt can dim our vision. This is when we need to remember how Big our God is. We also to help each other be reminded. Maybe it’s an encouraging story of a time when you were down and God showed up bigger than life. You can use that to encourage others.
Hebrews 12 Helps Us Keep Our Focus
So since we stand surrounded by all those who have gone before, an enormous cloud of witnesses, let us drop every extra weight, every sin that clings to us and slackens our pace, and let us run with endurance the long race set before us.
Now stay focused on Jesus, who designed and perfected our faith. He endured the cross and ignored the shame of that death because He focused on the joy that was set before Him; and now He is seated beside God on the throne, a place of honor.
Hebrews 12:1-2 The Voice (emphasis mine)
It can also be a challenge to stay positive. We can do it. After all, remember that you are part of an army of other women just like you. Contact one of them. I know they will be glad to offer their help. In the verse above, Jesus stayed focused on the joy that was set before Him. When we are discouraged we need to do the same. He will come and comfort us, renewing our joy and hope in Him.
So, for review:
- God is bigger than anything. He is above every emotion, fear, negative thought, and enemy. We are to live above them as well.
- God is the God of the invisible. So what I can’t see is actually more real than what I can see! This is faith.
- Keep your eyes focused on the One. Even if we make a mistake – He is bigger and can take our mistakes and make them beautiful! So stop focusing on emotions, fears, and circumstance.
- God’s will is being done here on earth as it is in heaven. Nothing can stop it! If your picture of life is being shattered – Rejoice! He is drawing a new one created by His perfect will and putting you in the center of it.
- Remember what lies ahead. Eternity with Christ. There is nothing more we need.
