In Part 1 of Women Changing the World, you met Karen who helped to start a food bank to feed the hungry. You also met Lottie Moon who gave her life to the people of China as a Teacher and Evangelist. In Part 2, you will meet Laynie and Sojourner Truth. These two are very opposite yet still have the commonality of their devotion to Christ and desire to serve those who are young and those who are disadvantaged. Both of these women do and did exactly that.
The Influence of a Godly Woman
Ministry and world-changing are really the same thing because, as I said last time, the world is changed one-person-at-a-time. What one person starts, is often finished by another. For instance, the work of Sojourner Truth is still in progress. She was a slave who fought against slavery, discrimination, and the treatment of women. As you can see, her work is not done. So, why is she a world-changer? She was a spark. She made small changes in her time and contributed to the larger changes which are still in progress. The influence of a godly woman continues to this day.
World-Changers don’t necessarily see the full fruit of their work. Laynie, who heads up Children’s Ministry, participates in planting seeds in the hearts and minds of children. She doesn’t always get to see the harvest, yet she is a woman changing the world. However, without the seeds being planted, there is nothing to water and nothing to harvest.
“What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed,Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.” 1 Corinthians 3:5
Women Changing the World
We each have a role to play. Some become famous for what they do and others do not. Think of how many people in New Testament times were seed-planters. Yet, in the passage above, only two are mentioned, Paul and Apollos. Apollos would never have been famous had it not been for the work of Priscilla and Aquila in his life. They had to take him aside and instruct him in the full meaning of Jesus’ work on the cross. Of course, Paul and Apollos are examples. There were others who planted the seeds in the two of them. Those seed planters were also world-changers because they changed the hearts of Paul and Apollos, watered them in the Word, and God made them grow.
What I hope you can see, is that each person involved in each step along the way matters. The seeds planted by Laynie and the other teachers into the fertile hearts of little children matter. The fiery stance of Sojourner Truth mattered. Whatever you can do – do it!
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving” Colossians 3:23-24 NIV
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31
Find Ways to Let Your Light Shine
Anything we do for the Kingdom and the glory of God has great meaning. We have a choice to do all things for Christ or do it for self. If you view everything you do as useless and not enough, you are wrong and undermining your own walk with the Lord. Instead, find ways to let your light shine.
God is so crazy about us, so totally overjoyed by us, yet we often allow self-pity and comparison to shipwreck us. God takes delight in us, viewing us through the blood of Christ – pure, clean and beautiful. Sometimes it is a fight to maintain a correct and Biblical view of yourself. That’s why you have the Holy Spirit. He can make sure you win the fight! Believe What God Says About You!
Be A Woman Changing the World
Whatever you are doing, if you are doing it for your King – it matters. You matter and are a world-changer if you choose to be. You are part of something so much larger than yourself and yet your Father sees you. God sees Laynie. He saw Sojourner Truth. He saw women changing the world and you can be a woman changing the world.
When you download the E-Book you will learn more about Laynie and Sojourner, but as you read about them, don’t compare yourself to them or anyone else. Don’t say, “But I’m just a stay-at-home Mom.” Don’t say, “I’m too old and I don’t have anything to offer anyone; or, but they are different than me.” Being a Mother is the most important thing you will ever do. You are never too old. No one has access to things from God that you do not have. In Christ, we are all equal and how you change the world will be unique. God wants to use you for His glory!
Have you ever heard of a man called Praying Hyde? His actual name was John Hyde, born in 1865. He was no one. He believed God had called him to India but he was really not a good speaker at all. However, he had a secret weapon – prayer. He began praying. He once fasted and prayed for 30 days, at one point spending 36 hours on his knees. Revival came and John led 400 Indian people to salvation in one year and 800 the next. He was not well and died at the age of 46. Was his life all for nothing simply because he was not a good preacher? No. For 1,200 Indian people, he was a world-changer, and who can count the number of souls which came to Christ as those 1,200 passed the Good News along?Remember - God Chose You - so don't discount what you Can do, and stop focusing on what you Can't do!
